Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the next meeting of the IUFRO Working Party 7.03.10 Methodology of forest insect and disease survey in Central Europe, titled “Recent Changes in Forest Insects and Pathogens Significance”.
This event will take place during 16-20 September 2019, at the Forestry Faculty of the University “Stefan cel Mare” of Suceava, Romania.
Suceava is located in the North-Eastern part of Romania and is the main town of the historical province Bucovina, famous for the medieval painted monasteries, included on the list of the world patrimony UNESCO, as for its beautiful nature.
The organizing committee of the meeting has the pleasure to invite you to join us in Suceava.

The conference will include both oral and poster presentations, addressing key issues relating to:

  • Information platform on pests and diseases occurrence in Central Europe
  • Non-native organisms - network for sharing information on distribution and spreading
  • Risk assessment of actual and introduced pests and diseases
  • Diagnostic tools and evidence systems for forest pests and diseases
  • The pest and disease controls in the certificated forests (FSC or PEFC)

The fees will cover organizational costs, including accommodation, meals and field trip*.
Students will have a 30% discount.
There will be an extra fee for accompanying persons (covering the costs for accommodation, meals and field trip*).
The conference fee value will be increased by 15% for the payments made after to July 31, 2019.
The payment system will be activated starting to May 10 , 2019 (at the same time with the start of registration).

The conference participants who already submitted a paper/poster would receive a link to the online registration form by email. All the other participants (who will not hold oral/poster presentation) can still register online after sending a request by email to mduduman@usm.ro.

Official language: The official language of the meeting is English.

Presentations Information

Oral presentations:
Time: 15 minutes + 5 minutes discussion;
Slide format: 16:9 (panoramic) or exceptionally 4:3;
Please prepare your presentations in Microsoft Power Point (*.ppt or *.pptx), or equivalent applications; Presentation equipment: the organizer will provide technical equipment (computer/laptop and projector). Please bring your presentation on a stick-drive and upload it on the provided laptop.
The use of the personal laptops is not allowed.

Posters: The recommended format is A0 (841 x 1189 mm), with portret layout. Please do not exceed this dimensions.

Accommodation


The official IUFRO Conference hotel is Hotel Balada (4*).

Hotel Balada

The hotel is located in the central area of the city, close to the Citadel of Suceava, the monastery of Saint John the New and other administrative landmarks.

Travel

Suceava is a 100,000 inhabitant town, located 450 km North of Bucharest and is part of the historical province Bucovina famous for its monasteries and beautiful nature. Some of the medieval painted monasteries of northern Moldavia were included on the list of the world patrimony UNESCO.
Suceava is also known as a former capital of Moldavia principality.
The Stefan cel Mare International Airport in Suceava is located at 12 km from the centre of the town (pick-up of the participants organized by us) and both national and international flights are operated. There are direct flights to Milano, Bologna, Roma and London but the airport has connections with all main airports in Europe via Bucharest. By train, Bucharest - Suceava (Burdujeni railway station) travel lasts for 7 hours. By car, Vienna – Suceava, via Oradea, represents approximately 16-18 hours drive.
