Abstract
The Evaluation of March 2002 Wind Damages Impact Concerning the Ecoprotective Functions of the Forests
This paper presents a study regarding the auxologic influence exerted by
wood decay fungus on Norway spruce forests installed in stands outside the
natural area. The method used for quantifying this influence includes calculating
the growth coefficient (the relation between the annual radial growth at 1.3 m and
at stump level) as a way to measure the biomass deposits along the trunk. The
conclusion was that the infected tree increases its radial growth at stump level in
order to prevent damages caused by wind and snow, even in the incipient stages of

the disease. The reaction of Norway spruce trees is related to the auxological
stability of the specie in this stands; the indicator has been calculated using
spruce's, beech's, and silver fir's variation coefficient of annual radial growth
index.
We can conclude that coniferous species are less stabile than broadleaved
species from the auxology point of view and more resistant to wood decay fungus
infection.
